What comes to mind when you hear someone say they or their loved one had a long hospital stay? According to a hospitalist doctor the average “Long” hospital stay is 5 days.
Chris has been in the hospital since February 26th. For those who are counting (me) today is his 165th day in the hospital! That’s 165 consecutive days in the hospital. He came in with an infection on his brain and while in the hospital he has developed pneumonia, acute kidney injury, physical deconditioning. These are just the main issues. He has several other minor issues that come from a combination of being in the hospital so long and previous diagnosis.
He has not said a word in months. He has mouthed some words here and there, but I only understand a few of them. I don’t read lips very well so he gets frustrated and just stops trying.
This whole hospital stay has been very frustrating and unfortunately I don’t see an end in sight anytime soon. The fact that he came in for 1 issue and now has 26 issues listed in his chart. The having to argue on a daily bases with the doctors and/or nurses to get him the help he needs. Then there’s the not knowing for sure if he’s in pain, feeling nauseous, or comfortable.
Anyway, this is a picture from today. I know he looks rough but he’s a fighter. He has fought a harder fight than any fighter or boxer!
He could really use some prayers, good vibes and positive thoughts!
Thank you,
