Simple Things #15 12/5/23

It amazes me how some of the littlest, simple things can make a huge difference! I have spent the last 9 months in hospital with Chris. I didn’t put up and decorations or personal items until about a week ago. For awhile it seemed like we were only in a room for a short time before he would end up in the ICU. To make packing up his room easier I didn’t bring hardly any personal items to his room.

A week ago they moved the whole entire unit to a new floor. His room is brighter and has a view now! I had these pictures in my purse for months but didn’t consider hanging them up until the move.

I didn’t expect the impact these simple pictures would have on everyone. Every doctor, nurse, and CNA that comes into his room stops to look at the pictures. The simple pictures have made each of them realize that Chris wasn’t always a sick patient. He is a loving, caring, husband and father.

Don’t get me wrong, not everyone seemed to consider him just another patient. We have had some very good nurses, CNAs, and doctors. The pictures have helped all of them see he has a real life story that isn’t covered in his medical chart. He has a family that loves him and will not give up on him! Sometimes a little reminder that the patients are human helps improves the connection between medical professionals and the patient.

There is usually simple little things to help brighten the situation. We just have to find them.
