Long Days #10 10/9/23.

Seven and a half months of sitting in the hospital praying for improvements. While it has made for long days and nights for me it’s nothing compared to what he is going through. The seven months in bed has taken its toll on him. He has bed sores and his muscle tone is declining. I’m doing physical therapy with him to help with the muscle tone but there’s only so much that can be done.

There has been some small improvements but he still has a long ways to go. His lungs are improving and he has been able to be on c-pap since October 1st. This is a good step forward. Before the first he was having to be put back on the vent settings at night and during dialysis. He gets dialysis three days a week for four hours a session.

He is starting to produce urine again. He is only putting about half as much urine as the average person does. Unfortunately his kidneys are still not filtering the blood properly so dialysis is still needed. The urine output increasing is encouraging and I continue to pray that his kidneys begin fully working again.

Due to all the chemo and radiation; he’s had to deal with his cancer, his teeth are in bad shape. He has lost one jaw tooth and has four front teeth that are loose. This would not be an issue but the blood from his mouth drains down his throat to his lungs. This makes it more difficult to figure out if the blood being sectioned out of his track is from his mouth or is there another issue with his lungs. He’s chest x-rays show that his lungs have improved.

Another small improvement is that he’s starting to interact more. It had been awhile since he had responded with even an eyebrow raise. He’s now back to smiling, raising his eyebrows and trying to mouth words. I just hope he continues to improve since his course of antibiotics is over and his white blood cell count is still elevated.

Please continue to pray and send good vibes for Chris.
